Geography: Situated on the south-east coast of China. To the north, a river flowing between Lowu (Hong Kong side) and Shenzhen city (Mainland side) separates Hong Kong from the Chinese mainland. Steeply rugged hills and mountains, comprised mostly of volcanic rock, dominate the terrain.

Climate: Subtropical with an average daily temperature of 90 in July and 67 in January. The summer months are hot and very humid.

Attractions: Central District, Victoria Peak, Stanley Market and Lantau Island.

Interesting note: Hong Kong has urbanized only about 17% of its land area, and over 40% of the territory is protected as country parks, special area, and Ramsar site; in percentage term this is probably the highest in the world.
